William Jolly Bridge

the William Jolly Bridge is the 6th crossing of the Brisbane River in Brisbane, Australia. it is a steel frame arch bridge with an unusual concrete veneer and was opened to traffic on 30 March 1932 by Sir John Goodwin, the Governor of Queensland. these pictures are a result of my reaction to the bridge (well, it's actually an assignment!). everytime i am on it, it makes me think of that day it was opened in 1932. it also makes me think of mr jolly.... his descendants must be proud of him to have the bridge named after him... i would if i was one of them! anyway, this is my reaction to the jolly bridge (take note lani, this is my creating the image assignment) ... a reconnection between the past and the present... is my concept clear enough?

The lovely Imogen

Well.. this is the lovely Imogen. I have submitted this for my exprimental portrait assignment - it's an E6 film cross-processed it in C41. It gave amazing colours! I also played around with the hue and saturation and came up with this. I just love it... the lovely Imogen was not quite sure what to think of it. She did point out that she looked yellow... jaundicey yellow... but that's what i love about it... the unnaturalness of it all... i guess i am weird.

Great Ocean Road Trip: The Twelve Apostles

This was our road trip around Victoria back in March this year... just showing my friend, Amy around. It was such a cloudy day... i guess it shows in my pictures! It still amazes me though... I really love the 12 apostles.. been here a few times and still not sick of it.. I miss Victoria.

A portrait of Byron

Byron is one of the photography students in Griffith University who is studying news photography with me. This sensitive new age guy is one very creative creature as well. The pictures on the right side leaning against the wall are his photos that won him awards (two silver and silver distinction awards) at the Australian Professional Photography Awards in 2006. And who's that bub Byron? hehehe..

ANZAC Day pictures - dawn service

Byron's ANZAC Day bbq

25 april 2007, ANZAC Day. it is a day for Australians to remember those ANZACS who fought in the Battle of Gallipoli in WWI. this is also a day when Australians reflect the many different meanings of war. lest we forget. the usual tradition is usually celebrated with the dawn service, the ANZAC parade, ANZAC biscuits, barbeques and Aussie Rules Football between Essendon and Collingwood.
i attended my first dawn service ever at elephant rock in Currumbin... i had to wake up early for it (got up at 3am!) but it was all worth it in the end. and the rest of the day was celebrated with friends... the following are photos taken during Byron's ANZAC barbeque... and yes.. we all had fun...

this is richard, playing with henry's hat.

ali.. are you actually listening to richard's tales? =)

simon.. not posing as gigi this time..

the lovely imogen... always looks good in front of the camera..

hugh, paul and ali.... nice pose paul!

me with a very cheesy grin!

hmmm... i like those lens flare! ali and immy in the foreground... henry and hugh in the background

... and yes.. finally.. the host, byron, who's birthday was actually the next day!
ps. the pictures are red 'cos i was playing around with my red filter... cool huh?

I ain't no rockstar!

This is actually a take off of the celebrity rockstar. i like this pic.. brian worked very hard to get that beanie tail of his flying, with him looking so calm and relaxed.. as if nothing happened.

My precious!

well.. this is my first set up group portrait ever. i am ever thankful to richard, pete and brian for being easy and fun people to work with. hmm... it is a goofy look of brian.. he reminded me of goolum! and yes.. i do like this picture..
